Friends of Tigertail hosted a free “Breakfast and Birds” program at Tigertail Beach on January 11 despite rain and wind.

20 participants first learned characteristics used for identification, such as size, leg, bill, feather color, and behavior. The presenter, Fran Huxley, then led the group to the lagoon beach, where the weather improved, and several bird species were seen on the sand and flying overhead.

The concept of species symbiosis was illustrated by a Snowy Egret surrounded by several White Ibis. The upright Egret watched for predators while the Ibis bent over, foraging for food from the sandy bottom, some of which were eaten by the Egret.

The next Breakfast and Birds presentation is scheduled for Saturday, 3/15/25, at 10:00 am, and the next beach clean-up in association with the county and Keep Collier Beautiful will be on Saturday, March 22, at 8:00 am.
