November is a time to celebrate America Recycles Day Recycling Day and a time to promote waste reduction and energy conservation through proper recycling. Trash and recycling volumes typically increase in November as people prepare for Thanksgiving and the Christmas Holidays. Keep Collier Beautiful reminds our friends and neighbors to recycle right and to learn the different ways you can recycle common household items, such as plastic bottles, metal cans, and papers, to help our environment.

When placing items in your curbside recycling carts, always follow these three basic rules:

  • Remove all food waste from containers
  • Fill your container with clean and dry recyclables
  • Do not bag your recyclables. Do not place any type of plastic bags in your recycling cart

For more information on proper recycling in Collier County, visit www.colliercountyfl.gov/recycling

We also invite everyone, especially families with kids taking their holiday break, to sign up for a group volunteer cleanup initiative in one of our Collier County beaches or canals. Through volunteering, you can spend some quality time with family while taking a proactive step in helping our beautiful paradise coast. It is also a perfect opportunity for kids because:

  1. It is a mindful way to take a break from the hustle and bustle.
  2. It teaches them about the impacts of littering on the environment.
  3. They can get community service hours.
  4. It’s fun!

Group Volunteer Cleanups are available year-round. If you are interested in volunteering, please register at www.keepcollierbeautiful.com/volunteer-projects. We’ll provide basic cleanup supplies, coordinate trash pickup, and contact necessary location managers or offices to ensure a smooth-sailing cleanup experience. In return, we ask you to report your efforts for our annual reporting. It is a quick survey to ensure we log your volunteer hours and document the litter and debris collected. We would also love to see and share your cleanup photos on our social media accounts to recognize your efforts for our community.
